Thermal Optics with Webcam

Is it possible to convert my webcam to view thrermal signatures? I would most likely need a program aswell if it is possible... So ican anyone help me out? PLEEEEASE! I want to build a 'poorman's servailance system' for my home.(I wanted to use Thermal Optics, but am not making a lot of money....)

Just had a question on my mind.... I infrared the same as Thermal Optics or is a program needed to translate IR into Thermal Optics?? If so where to get the software?
